LEARNING LAB

a program of Temple Menorah and Tuvia School

K-9th grade

In our school-age program, we are continuing to build and support a community of learners with their district directed online learning or blended learning as well as provide full-day support for working families.

With low teacher:student ratios, we foster students’ increasing personal independence by developing a positive self-concept of who they are as individuals, as well as what their role is in their family and their community.
Our trained educators support students with their online learning and classwork requirements. We have a schedule that accommodates both academic learning and an emergent curriculum that builds on their unique strengths, while simultaneously introducing them to new ways of thinking and learning, in order to expand their world, providing a strong foundation for their future learning experiences. We provide opportunities for students to enhance their skills in reading, writing, math, speaking, listening, critical thinking, Judaic studies, science, social studies, art, music, physical education, Hebrew language acquisition, and gross and fine motor development. Classes also have regular access to Wilderness Park across the street for outdoor educational experiences.
As with all our programs, we support the developmental and individual needs of all children as they grow and progress emotionally, cognitively, academically, socially, physically, and spiritually. Here at Tuvia, we kindle a life-long love of learning, which is key to all future academic and personal success.

Helpful Information

FACULTY AND RATIO

The Learning Lab faculty will be comprised of a student teacher, credentialed teacher or retired teacher, supporting children 20-25 hours a week with their online learning. We will have an additional assistant who will support extracurricular activities 20-25 hours per week. This would include physical education, art, science, engineering, etc. We hope to find assistants with units in education, psychology, art, etc. ​


Our educators will communicate with families regarding incomplete assignments, concerns regarding pacing of assignments, etc. Our goal would be to have students finish their assignments while in our program. However, parents should anticipate that there will be assignments that require parent participation. Our staff will communicate through BrightWheel regularly regarding participation, assignments, concerns, and accomplishments. Parents are also able to communicate with our staff through BrightWheel from their phone. ​


At this time our ratio will be 10 students per cohort with 2 staff members (1 teacher and 1 assistant spread out throughout the day). When licensing permits growing group sizes, we will assess growing the group to 12 students if deemed safe. ​

TYPICAL SCHEDULE

We know that most schools plan to do their Zoom/Live learning in the mornings, followed by asynchronous learning, and small breakout groups. To support this, a typical schedule would be as follows: ​

7:30am-8:30am – Arrival and morning check in ​

8:30am-10:30am – Online and asynchronous learning ​

10:30am-10:45am – Movement Break and Snack ​

10:45am-12:00pm – Online and asynchronous learning ​

12:00pm-1:00pm – Lunch and outdoor time (basketball, soccer, tether ball, scooters, yoga, handball, etc. on our patio and trips to Wilderness Park across the street) ​

1:15pm-1:45pm – Reading and Literacy Activities ​

1:45pm-2:45pm – Enrichment activities (painting, ceramics, engineering, creative writing/drama, virtual field trips, etc. and/or make up-work. ​

2:45pm-3:00pm – Clean up and dismissal for those leaving at 3:00pm ​

3:00pm-4:15pm – Snack and outdoor time (basketball, soccer, tether ball, scooters, yoga, handball, etc. on our patio and trips to Wilderness Park across the street) ​

4:15pm-4:30pm – Clean up and dismissal for those leaving at 4:30pm ​

4:30pm-5:45pm – Independent activities (drawing, Legos, engineering, dramatic play, pottery, gardening, etc.) ​

5:45pm-6:00pm – Clean up and dismissal for all remaining students ​

LEARNING LAB: WHO PROVIDES WHAT?

FAMILIES
Families are responsible for providing laptops/iPads, mouse, headsets, power chords, printed assignment, and lunches

LEARNING LAB
We will provide the snacks, water, wifi and basic school supplies like paper, pencils, markers, crayons, scissors, glue, etc. We will also have games, art materials, and outdoor equipment available.

RESERVE YOUR APPLICATION

Please use this form to reserve your application for enrollment. Families will be required to return the enrollment application within 1 week of receiving it or risk losing their spot in our program. There is a $225 non-refundable registration fee that will be applied to your enrollment contract. This fee reserves your space in our program for 1 week following the release of enrollment forms. Admission will be granted on a rolling basis as space permits. You will be notified if you are on the waitlist. Your reservation fee reserves your spot based on the waitlist. Should we not be able to fulfill your enrollment request due to maximum enrollment capacity, we will refund your registration fee at that time.
